Hazard Perception Test (HPT)

The HPT is an online test containing a series of 3D computer-generated clips that measures your ability to predict and respond to dangerous driving situations. You must pass this before booking your practical driving test.

Practical Driving Test

The practical test assesses your on-road driving skills. You'll need your completed logbook (100 hours) and a passed HPT before you can book.

Helpful Tips From Your Instructors

With over 20 years of teaching experience, here's what we tell every student.

1Before Your Hazard Perception Test

  • The test is computer-based — you'll watch video clips and click when you spot a hazard developing.
  • Practice by scanning ahead while driving with your supervisor. Look for anything that could make you slow down, stop, or change direction.
  • Get a good night's sleep before the test — you need to be alert and focused.

2Before Your Practical Driving Test

  • Make sure you've completed all 100 logbook hours, including at least 10 hours of night driving.
  • Book a lesson with us before your test — we'll do a mock test on the actual test routes.
  • Bring your learner licence and any required ID on the day.
  • Check your vehicle meets roadworthy requirements (lights, tyres, indicators, horn, seatbelts all working).
  • Practice the test area — Helensvale and Southport routes include roundabouts, merging, and school zones.

3General Tips for Learner Drivers

  • Drive in different conditions — rain, night, heavy traffic, quiet streets. Variety builds real confidence.
  • Don't rush your hours. Quality practice matters more than ticking off numbers quickly.
  • Always do your head checks — examiners watch for this closely on the practical test.
  • If you make a mistake during the test, stay calm and keep driving safely. One error doesn't mean a fail.
  • Ask your instructor about anything you're unsure of — there are no silly questions.
